Topic 1: Extraction - Download Umodel

[This is post is part of a series of tutorials.]

Topic 1: Extraction - Download Umodel

The first thing is to obtain the tool you'll need in order to extract the assets from their packages in the game files. The tool I use for this is Umodel, and it's free to download.

It can be found here: http://www.gildor.org/en/projects/umodel

  • Scroll down to Downloads and click on the Win32 version; a .zip will download.
  • Find wherever it downloaded to on your PC, right click, and extract.
  • Move the umodel.exe and SDL.dll into the CookedPC folder (or inside the copy of it you may have made to work in).

(The readme.txt has basic information about which games it's compatible with and its update history. Since we're just using it with Mass Effect and/or Mass Effect 2, it's not particularly vital to look through or have.)

Okay, you now have the tool you need for extraction! Congratulations! Now, we need to use it. Onto the next part!
