[Explosive Dawn] Fall, Week 4 - Prototypes Ahoy!

Greetings,

This is the end of week 4 here at Hogwart's School of Gamecraft and Artistry, and El Citrap has been a busy bunch between our incoming milestone and our increasing piles of homework.

Us designers have been working on prototyping. We had been planning on doing a paper prototype, but that was a difficult thing to do considering the fact that our game is heavily based on physics. Thankfully, my fellow designer sat down with our technical director and recreated the basic physics engine in Flash. We've been tweaking it and adding things here and there. We've got two versions right now that are built from the same basic thing that he created.

TPH4 is the latest version of my fellow designer's work. There are particles floating around everywhere, and you place down squares of varying intensities that can either repel or attract the particles. It's loads of fun to play with, and surprisingly interesting to just sit and watch.

Pictured: Prototype TPH4. Note the attraction of particles in blue and repulsion in red.

The other prototype is the one I worked on, TPH3-AY. I added a bird, and little particles bounce off of him as he flies around the screen.

The engine's come a long way as well. We've got the basic architecture, graphics, physics, and debugging features. There's still more work to be done. Everything's got to be integrated, and the rest of the features required by our Engine Proof milestone need to be finished as well. As I've said before, I've got confidence that these guys can do it. They definitely know what they're doing.

Our presentation is next week on Wednesday. I will be preparing the team's PowerPoint, since I have a decent amount of experience with that. We also have been considering potential logos. We all seem a bit unsure of what to do. I made up a few drafts, so we'll see what we can put together hopefully before Wednesday.

Anyway, it's late, and I've got class tomorrow. Let's hope our Engine Proof presentation goes well next week! See you then. Peace.

Sincerely,
Alicia.
