[Explosive Dawn] Fall, Week 9 - Post-Prototype

Greetings,

Week 9 is at an end--finally. It was a hard week between the milestone and the rather large piles of homework. However, we've managed to get through it, and things are looking up. The weather's getting colder and greyer which only serves as a constant reminder that Winter is coming right along, which means Christmas is coming right along, which means...holy crap First Playable is also coming right along.

First, how did Prototype go? Actually, not bad. We didn't have a spectacular thing to show off. So, we weren't expecting ladies to shower us with their undergarments or anything (if that's ever even happened in the history of games), but we knew we had something. It definitely went much better than Engine Proof, and I would say that we are all feeling encouraged by the state of things. Our best sections were for planning and for design. That makes me happy since I'm the designer, and I'm also the person in the background who sort of keeps everything organized.

Right now, our ships moves around, shoots, kills enemies, can pick up an item, and the item changes the gun. We've only got the spread shot implemented right now, but we don't believe that the implementations for the other guns will be particularly difficult.

We've got just about everything planned out as far as what we're going to do for First Playable and in what order. We just don't have the when's, but that's because of laziness. We just know we'll have things done at some point before First Playable. (Lol.) So, here's what we've got to do:

Graphics
TCR's, basically.

UI
Everything, including main menu, pause menu, gameplay interface, the safehouse interface, etc.

Gameplay
Implement the player dying, the rest of the add-ons, and better AI.

Design
More enemies, balance the weapons and enemies, and playtesting!

Assets
Finalized art, finalized sound, and some actual music.

Playtesting
Phase I - Player dying is implemented.
Phase II - All add-ons are implemented.
Phase III - All enemies are made.
Phase IV - UI and polish.

It's going to be awesome--or at least it should be. I'll see you at the end of week 10! Peace.

Sincerely,
Alicia.
